SUMMARY:Historic Boats Turns 100 at Sugar Pine Point State Park, Lake Tahoe
DESCRIPTION:This special 100th Birthday event at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park will celebrate the history, craftsmanship, and cultural significance of one of Lake Tahoe’s most iconic historic vessels.\nBuilt in 1926, the innovative 35-foot all-metal speedboat “Cigarette IV” won the first national speedboat regatta on the Potomac River and was awarded the President’s Cup by President Calvin Coolidge. Acquired by Stanley Dollar, Jr. in 1937, the vessel later moved to Lake Tahoe, where it was renamed “Mercury” and competed in multiple races. At the time, “Mercury” was reputed to be the fastest speedboat in the world!\nWe welcome you to Sugar Pine Point to celebrate the 100th birthdays of “Mercury” and “Cherokee”, two historic boats in the California State Parks collection. Find us at the South Boathouse to view “Mercury”, the first all-aluminum race boat. Participate in family-friendly activities, history talks, and more!\n \n \n
