The annual fall boat trip planned by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the ACBS almost did not happen. We had rooms reserved, plans for meeting to put in the Muskingum River at McConnelsville and lock through to Marietta. We even had restaurants reserved. But Mother Nature challenged the trip with a very high Ohio River, a rising Muskingum River and finally locks that were closed due to the flooding. Many calls, texts and emails were exchanged at the last minute. The agenda was adjusted and finally it was decided by Mike Lloyd and Captains Dennis Ryan and Jim Lawson not to let a little flooding stop the trip.
We met on Friday in Marietta and on Saturday we drove to Seneca Lake (one hour north), the third largest inland lake in Ohio. And a beautiful lake it is! Five boats with 14 people had lunch at the marina and cruised the lake with the guidance of our Marietta hosts, Tom Danford and Charlie Aseltine. Dan, Charlie and their wives were wonderful hosts even having banners printed to welcome us! Saturday evening, we had a great dinner at Austyns in downtown Marietta.
Marietta is a beautiful town and was so welcoming to our boat group!
