The Manotick Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society is one of four Canadian Chapters.
The “Manotick Classic Boat Club” was first organized in 1975 and became an official organization in 1976. This was about the same time that the Antique and Classic Boat Society was being organized at Lake George, NY to become an International organization. The Manotick Classic Boat Club was the first Canadian chapter to join ACBS. Their membership derives mainly from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
The Manotick Chapter maintains a very interesting website which is always up-to-date. Their club events page lists a full calendar for 2018 including four events just in January and February. Going to the “Special Notifications” page offers colorful, detailed invitations to these events.
This Chapter holds a spring tour and a fall tour of boat shops in their area. This gives members and their guests a chance to see work in progress by fellow members and by professionals. Of course, there are lunch stops and an evening gathering to complete the tour days.
Another wonderful activity where boats and boating are shared by the group is the schedule of Wednesday night cruises from May into September. Destinations along the Rideau River are pre-determined including on the water restaurants and members’ homes. Each Wednesday must be like a mini boat show as they gather on the River.
All viewers: this ACBS website welcomes your pictures and stories! We love to even share with our larger audience what has already been shown to your own chapter and friends. Send your pictures, reports, announcements, and boat biographies to kathyparker@acbs.org
