On Saturday October 16th, the Long Island Chapter members were treated to a tour of the Historic Weeks Yacht Yard in Patchogue, NY on the Patchogue River, along with a catered buffet dinner afterwards.
Our gracious host, Kevin Weeks took members on a tour inside several of the buildings, and throughout the yard & dock areas, where vintage wood boats are plentiful!
The Weeks Yacht Yard was started in 1898, and many of the buildings are mostly original, along with one structure that houses may types of belt driven machinery. The original rail road tracks that were utilized to transport boats in and out of the river are still used to move boats in and out of the storage buildings. The Weeks family built 26’ Sea Skiffs, among several other designs. Kevin Weeks is a wealth of information, and it’s a pleasure to know of his passion for vintage wood boats.
The catered dinner was enjoyed by all, and another surprise was a Birthday sheet cake that had an edible decoration of Miss Moxie, a 1966 Century Resorter, owned by our events chairperson, Jen Chernow!
It was a wonderful time for all, and we thank President Bob Williams for coordinating with Kevin Weeks, and Laura Almond our Secretary for arranging our dinner, and all the other Chapter members who helped make this a successful event!
