I wanted to share this with you and the gang. My 1950 Lyman 18’ Islander recently finished first in the antique division at our annual Flotilla that was started in 1961 by my dad and some of his buddies. The boat is named Big Al and my buddy did the gold leaf on the transom using Al’s signature. Al gave the boat to my dad in the 1970’s and it was the first boat ride my wife, Cindi, and I of 45 years ever took together.
I’ve been trying to buy it since the early 1980’s as it changed hands a few times. I was finally able to buy it in November 2022. The hull is A2013 and totally restored. I just thought I’d share a couple of pics and part of the story.
Enjoy the water, Jeff
My 1950 Lyman Islander 18 is not as nice as yours and May be of slightly earlier production. Mine does not have the trademark anchor contours in the doors under the deck. I would appreciate a pencil tracing of yours so that I might add them.
Love those Lyman’s – thanks for the article and pictures!
