By Karl & Lois Hoffman members of the Pacific Northwest chapter
Our Pacific Northwest Chapter has always been very active with many events happening throughout the year. In 2017 we joined forces with the City of Renton and their annual River Days celebration to successfully bring back by popular demand our antique and classic boat show. Using the backdrop of the beautiful Gene Coulon Park that includes a boardwalk and direct water access to Lake Washington, we have room for up to 50 boats. In 2018, we had boats brought from as far away as Fallbrook, CA and British Columbia, so participants are encouraged to register early to secure a place. Last year we added a Friday pre-event which included a classic cruiser tour of Lake Union and Lake Washington that will be repeated at the 2019 show.
Since the park is owned by the City of Renton, our chapter cannot charge admission but we have two sponsors; the Northwest Marine Trade Association and Fisheries Supply. NMTA has given us a cash donation through their Grow Boating program and Fisheries Supply has donated child and youth life jackets. As part of the Grow Boating program, our chapter gave 451 individuals free boat rides during our one day show and free life jackets are offered to all children after their boating experience. Last year our awards included Best of Show judged by all the skippers, Peoples’ choice and Kids’ choice. Our 2019 show will be held on Saturday, July 27, at Gene Coulon Park in Renton, Washington. Sounds like a great event for folks in the Seattle area. Is there a website where people can find information and/or register for the event?
Yes our Pacific Northwest Chapter website has the registration on its front page. Or contact me at (253)221-3969 or karljhoffman@hotmail.com
