Craig Jentz Custom Furniture is the ACBS Associate Member featured this week.

Craig Jentz Custom Furniture is an Associate Member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society.  ACBS recognizes him with gratitude for his support of our organization. Hi is also a member of the Bob Speltz Land-o-Lakes Chapter of ACBS.

WOODZEST is the name of his company located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  A visit to his website reveals works that are uniquely styled utilitarian furniture to whimsical creations. His work encompasses:

  • Standard furniture. Furniture pieces like tables, chairs, beds, etc. have an obvious function, but the designs and construction are not. The end product is something very special that goes beyond what is available from mainstream furniture manufacturers. (Schuhschrank, Cherry Dining Set)
  • Imaginative items: Some of my favorite pieces are non-traditional furniture or semi-furniture sculpture which lets me express the whimsical side of design and construction (Grandpa’s 10 Horse, VW Microbus Entertainment Center).
  • Special purpose woodworking. I also make items to meet special purpose needs. Much of this work supplies woodwork items to other artisans for use in their products

Craig Jentz describes his design process:

My main design approach is to build scale models as it allows me to fully conceptualize and visualize the finished piece. I start with sketches to define the overall structure and design elements of the piece. I seldom move to detailed engineering drawings, and I don’t use computer automated design (CAD). Using the sketches as a base I then build 20% scale models. The real design work comes in the models. I can easily make and modify multiple models to test and visual the design. Once I’m satisfied with the models I build directly from them by scaling up appropriately.

Enjoy exploring his website and his imagination.
