Talk & Tour

Sentinel Structures, Inc. at Peshtigo, Wisconsin

Saturday 28 April 2018 12:30

We wanted to pass along a rare opportunity for those of you in the area of Peshtigo, Wisconsin or are just looking for a fun road trip.  Fellow club member Andreas Rhude is opening his shop for a talk and tour.   See his message below:

The reason for this Talk & Tour is that some friends at the Glacier Lakes ACBS chapter have asked about our work with the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides” and ask for a tour. On Saturday evening, 28 April Glacier Lakes is having an event. I decided to combine a talk and tour with their event. I am inviting any Glacier Lakes chapter member and friend as well as BSLOL and Antique Outboard Motor Club people and Thompson Antique & Classic Boat Rally people.

I will give a 20 minute talk on glued laminated timber and how the Thompson family of Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. were instrumental in the genesis of this industry in North America. I will talk about all the products and of course chat about the marine laminating for ship construction that has been part of this operation since the 1940s.

Then we will tour the factory. I am hoping to get Peter Thompson to join us – the last for the Thompson family to work for Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co.. I will also try to get the doors opened to the old Thompson Boat factory, which is immediately adjacent to Sentinel Structures, Inc., to get a peek inside.

Several Thompson classic boats that are awaiting restoration will be on display.

Location  of  Talk  &  Tour:
