It’s almost Show Time in Skaneateles, NY.
The 40th Annual Finger Lakes Antique & Classic Boat Show hosted by Finger Lakes Chapter will be July 27-29, 2018. Location: Skaneateles, New York, along the village pier (with new docks) and in Lakeside Clift Park at the north end of Skaneateles Lake.
It seems that the Finger Lakes Chapter of ACBS is more than just their annual boat show.
The Chapter’s Mission Statement is “The Finger Lakes Chapter of the ACBS exists to promote the love and enjoyment of classic boating in the region.” They must be doing a good job of that. They have a very good retention rate of memberships in the chapter listings. The Chapter holds a Workshop in the fall. Finger Lakes members are frequent participants in other Chapters’ boat shows. And many Finger Lakes members have served Internationally with the ACBS.
Brightwork is the Chapter’s magazine, an award-winning publication. (Can be viewed on the Finger Lakes Chapter website.) It always contains some restoration information, articles to keep chapter members better acquainted with each other, and a very popular editorial by one of their young members. In their most recent issue, Noah Taylor relates some of his restoration experiences after “growing up at boat shows” in an article titled “It’s the Relationships, Family and Friends“. Part of his conclusion is:
“I love antique and classic boats and the restoration/maintenance that is involved just as much as the next guy, but what I have learned through owning and working on them is the true value of family and friends. They are there for you through the ups and downs in life, the good and bad, no matter what.”
Finger Lakes Chapter practices those “valuable relationships”.
