Hamatreya is a 38 ft Chris Craft Commander built in 1968.
Hamatreya is powered by a Chris Craft 427. She is owned by Sam Cummings, a member of Water Wonderland Chapter of ACBS.
Sam tells us this story about Hamatreya:
When boat shopping, we sought out a 60’s 38 ft commander because we loved the style of a classic–and the open design and usability of this model really suited our lifestyle. No offense but we also think that most contemporary cruisers look like Clorox bottles.
We are the third owners—she was built in Holland Mich, spent a lot of her life in the thousand islands before landing on Lake Ontario where we found her. We brought her back to Michigan and named her “Hamatreya” after a poem by Emerson. She is used pretty intensely during the summers here—we have a place along the west coast of Lake Michigan in Douglas.
Typically, I get one or two thumbs up or honks in the channel—or a swimmer at the beach, or passerby in the marina tells me “she’s the prettiest boat in the harbor”. I’m not arguing…
I can’t imagine a better cruising/beaching boat has even been designed or produced.
She is in incredible original condition. Her glass and brightwork shine and she is meticulously maintained by us and by our friends at Macatawa Bay Boat Works in Saugatuck.
You can see the ACBS member decal on the pilothouse glass.
Hamatreya is in the “Classic” age category. Find out more about ACBS age classifications and ACBS judging classes here on this website.
