Our North Carolina Coastal and Piedmont Chapter is committed to supporting events of chapters that are nearby. One of those is the Blue Ridge Chapter which covers the western area of NC along with parts of Georgia and South Carolina.  The Blue Ridge Chapter held a boat show at Lake Lure on May 21, 2022.

Lake Lure, located in western NC,  is a lovely town situated on a winding two-lane road nestled between a lake and the mountains.  It is just a few minutes-drive to scenic Blowing Rock State Park.  My husband and I brought our 1959 17-foot Barbour Silver Clipper Deluxe to the show.  Because of COVID it has been a few years since we have last interacted with this chapter.

The buffet dinner on Friday night was a good opportunity to renew some old acquaintances and make some new friends.  The show on Saturday had about 15 boats and it was run in conjunction with a classic car show.

There was lots of foot traffic throughout the warm and sunny day.  We lucked out because storms had been predicted, but the rain held off until later in the day.

As we drove back to our home in New Bern, NC, we both remarked what a wonderful time we had had and what a pleasure it was to mingle with other ACBS members.  We look forward to next year’s show which is set for May 20, 2023.  We encourage you to put this date on your calendar.

  1. Two great pics of APBA Gold Cup G-9 Dodge 26’ replica L-class racer featuring boattail back stern

    • She’s a lotta fun. We transplanted a BB into her last winter. She receives a Falconer V12 this coming winter.

  2. One of the pictures included in your story is of G-9, Nuisance. Is this the actual Gold Cup boat from the 1920s or a replica? I know the original boat was owned by Delphine Dodge, sister of Horace, Jr. and was entered in the Gold Cup races of 1925, 1926, and 1927.
