Friday – Judging Day, Symposia to attend, and a tour of the Evinrude Factory.

Thursday’s meeting day was over and morning preps were underway for the official 2017 Antique and Classic Boat Society Annual Boat Show.  Pictured above is the newly elected President of the International ACBS organization, Rich Lepping, wiping down his Chris Craft Silver Arrow. Because Friday is the official judging day.

The Reef Point Marina is an ideal facility for the boat show with broad slips with wide walkways for the public to meander back and forth to admire these gorgeous boats.

The 100+ antique and classic boats are not only viewed and photographed by the public close up from the docks, but those in the restaurant in the upper level of the Reef Point Brew House enjoyed the overall view.

There is a variety of boats to be seen, various ages, sizes, and composition – but all beautifully decked out for the show.

Judges were seen studying, learning, discussing, and writing down their decisions.  Results will be calculated and announced on Saturday.

There were many things to do during this busy Friday; a list of interesting symposia to attend, a morning tour of the Evinrude factory which also included the history of Evinrude, and of course, a vendor’s row with a field of dreams (boats for sale) and sponsors and marque club tents.

Friday evening was the Education and Scholarship Auction.  More fun – and all for a good cause.  Lots of intriguing items appeared on the silent auction table such as books, posters, caps, an Adirondack chair, and more.

Scholarship recipient Rachel Conant and her family were introduced.  Rachel’s telling of her decision for a career change and enrollment in the Great Lakes Boat Building School to pursue her dream of working with the creation and restoration of wooden boats inspired all attendees.  Rachel was one of five recipients of ACBS scholarships last year.

Spirited bidding on the live auction items raised funds for the Scholarships awarded in the fall and for educational endeavors of the Society.

Stay tuned for more pictures of the boats at the show and announcements of winners.
