The Antique and Classic Boat Society includes 54 Chapters that offer so much to their membership. It is at the Chapter level where the most “old boat” stories are told, most expertise and tools are shared, and the strongest, enduring relationships are established.
Wine Country Chapter is the featured ACBS Chapter this week. Their membership comes primarily from middle NY west of Seneca Lake. Earlier this month, the chapter held its annual Boat Show at Hammondsport, New York.
From the chapter’s website;
Our Mission: Wine Country Classic Boats, Inc. exists to celebrate and promote education about, and preservation of, the history and culture of historic, antique and classic boats through events and communication.
This is a chapter whose members are often members of more than one chapter. Neighboring chapters coordinate their schedules so that members and boats can participate in additional boat shows and boating activities.
Patti Bandy, Chapter Officer, when asked to describe Wine Country Activities, said, “This is a fun chapter despite the fact that we are mostly seniors. But we are fun. A lot of our members are also members of other chapters. Jack and I are members of Thousand Islands, New England, and Smith Mountain Lake Chapters. We do have some beautiful boats. Jack and I are friends with Heidi and Randy Fletcher who run the boat show for the Thousand Islands Chapter. So we do a lot with them. Our fall trip will be back to Canada and Heidi is heading that one up. So we work with a lot of other chapters in upstate New York in getting events together. Finger Lakes is another chapter we have a relationship with.”
If you like using your boat and cruising to see the fall colors, check out the schedule for this chapter’s 2017 Fall Trip Sept. 9 through 14. It starts in Clayton, NY, then boating in Canadian waters explores in the Rideau River system before returning to Clayton. It looks like “room and board” are well planned for a beautiful trip.
The Wine Country Chapter’s yearly schedule includes these Classic Boat Events and Benefits:
Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show
Annual Antique and Classic Regatta
Annual lake cruise and rendezvous
Annual meeting in December (Holiday Party)
Cruises/Trips related to boating
Quarterly Vintage Wood Newsletter
Membership Directory
Quarterly Membership Meetings
Good people, Good Times, Good Fun!
54 International Chapters of ACBS
The Antique and Classic Boat Society has 54 Chapters throughout the United States, Canada, and France. ACBS members who affiliate with a home chapter find a group of friends with whom to share boating experiences, boat stories, and the skills needed to maintain and/or preserve and restore their vintage boats. Inevitably, the genuine relationships formed at the chapter level are always mentioned when an ACBS member is asked why they value their ACBS membership.
Please share information about your chapter. Anyone can do that. You may email up to six pictures and text to kathyparker@acbs.org.
