Racine, Wisconsin isn’t just waiting for the Antique and Classic Boat Society to fill their city with boats!
In anticipation of the ACBS Annual Meeting and International Boat Show, organizers of Racine, Wisconsin’s annual Downtown Public Art Project chose boats for the 2017 Public Art Project. From June through early September, more than two dozen Chris Craft-style power boat and sailboat statues are carrying on this year’s “Don’t Miss the Boat” theme. Each statue is colorfully (and often whimsically) decorated by a local artist. Designs include pirate rats, a Viking ship, and an underwater fantasy.
The boats may be viewed in front of participating Downtown Racine businesses all summer long. On Saturday, Sept. 9, the public will an opportunity to purchase a boat in an auction at Paul P. Harris Rotary Park, 5 Fifth St., on the city’s lakefront. The auction proceeds benefit the Downtown Racine Corp.
Reefpoint Marina is celebrating its 30th anniversary, Festival Park is celebrating 30 years and the Antique and Classic Boat Society has chosen Racine as the place to host its 15th annual In-Water Boat Show in September.
When ACBS arrives in September, the largest International Boat Show is anticipated. The displays will include Historic through Contemporary; Wooden, Fiberglass, and Steel; canoes to yachts. All of these boats will be vintage in character.
