The ACBS Oral History Project commemorating our club’s first 50 years is in full swing!
Over 3,000 have called in to share their stories about what membership in this great community of antique & classic boaters means to them and how it has enhanced their love of boating. We’ve collected some great memories dating back to ACBS’ founding in the 1970s all the way to modern day.
Of course, participation in the Oral History Project is voluntary, but if you haven’t already called the toll free number for Publishing Concepts (PCI), ACBS’s partner in this project, at 1-800-286-4359, please consider doing so.
This is your opportunity to:
- Ensure your contact information is accurate for the final printed edition of the ACBS member directory.
- Share your stories, photos and memories of your time, thus far, as an ACBS member: Great cruises, lasting friendships, restorations, and more.
PCI will collect your stories on a recorded line, transcribe them and return them to you to verify the details. You will also have the opportunity, but no obligation, to purchase the 50th Year Celebration Oral History Project hardcover book and other commemorative items. Your stories are important so that we can enhance our digital archives as we look ahead to the next 50 years.
Why PCI? With over 5,000 ACBS members, ACBS headquarters staff of two just does not have the capacity to field so many calls. PCI has been asked to verify your address, phone, email, chapter and join date to ensure an accurate member directory.
Your privacy is very important! PCI will only confirm your information and collect stories that you wish to share. Member privacy is an integral piece of the contract between ACBS and PCI. Your data is only sent back to ACBS Headquarters and ACBS owns the copyright to the book and all information from the oral histories will go into our archive.
Also, please remember, this Oral History Project is not an ACBS fundraiser, but a project created for the enjoyment of our members and the ACBS digital archives so that 50 years from now we can continue to enjoy our unique history, just as we do today.
If you prefer not to be contacted by PCI, please call ACBS headquarters at 315-686-2628 to verify your information for the directory.
Most importantly, whether or not you wish to purchase the book, please consider calling to share your member stories. You are a very important part of this organization and our history, and THAT is worth celebrating for generations to come!
