The Les Cheneaux Historical Association is this week’s ACBS featured Associate Member.
Les Cheneaux Historical Association is an Associate Member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. ACBS recognizes them with gratitude for their support of our organization. They are also a member of the Water Wonderland Chapter of ACBS.
Located at the northern tip of Lake Huron on the south shore of Michigan’s eastern Upper Peninsula, the Les Cheneaux Islands Historical Association is located in Cedarville, Michigan. It displays artifacts showing many details from the past: Indian crafts and tools from the logging era, a model of a lumber camp, and photos from early settlers. The islands of the area have always been a popular summer destination.
To ACBS members, they are widely known as the co-sponsors of the Hessel, Michigan boat show which this year on August 12th will be the 40th Annual Show.
August 12, 2017
The 2017 show will be the 40th year of the show. We will be featuring “The Best of 40 Years”.
All boats awarded the “Best of Show” in the past 39 years will be invited back to the show to be honored in this milestone event.
The Les Cheneaux Islands Antique Wooden Boat Show is held each year in the beautiful Upper Peninsula town of Hessel, Michigan. Some of the country’s finest boats call our rustic Les Cheneaux Islands home. Most of these boats are used daily during the summer months as a primary mode of transportation to and from the cottages dotting the area’s 36 sheltered islands. Les Cheneaux has a rich heritage in boat building and repair. Our craftsmen continue to offer some of the finest restoration and repair services available.
Entries in the boat show arrive each August from as far as California and Florida and include dinghies, rowboats, canoes, launches, sailboats, utilities, runabouts, large cruisers, racers and classic non-wood.
It is appropriate that this Historical Association honors vintage boats as works of art along with their annual Arts Festival. Read more about it here.
The Antique and Classic Boat Society appreciates the extra support given to our organization by Associate Members. Click here to see this year’s list of Associate Members.
