1972 Century Resorter 16

“Wild Cherry”

Owned by:  Gary and Janet Fesperman, Blue Ridge Chapter

My Father ordered this boat new from Short’s Boat and Motor Service, Shelby, NC in the summer of 1971.  The boat was delivered in late September from the factory as Hull # C 7265 and was the first new ’72 Century delivered to the dealership.  The boat spent its entire life on High Rock Lake, Salisbury, NC until my father passed in 2009.  I brought the boat at that time to our home on Lake Hartwell, Georgia where it currently resides.

The dealer installed the Century snap mooring cover, Century boarding ladder, Spartan airhorns and front Century step plates.  The boat is all original as delivered by the dealer except for a few minor engine changes and regular maintenance items (electronic ignition, water hoses, water pump impellers, plugs, fuel filters, carb rebuild, etc) and a new Century pennant and rear ensign.  The engine has a little over 300 hours since new and is always garage kept along with our 1966 Chris Craft Super Sport 17 (also purchased from Short’s in Shelby in 1982) and a 1987 Ski Nautique 2001 that I purchased new.

“Wild Cherry” has won numerous awards since coming to Georgia, mostly at ACBS Blue Ridge and Sunnyland Chapter Shows.  Janet and I use her on Lake Hartwell on a regular basis and love to show off her brilliant Century Cherry Red Color!………i.e. “WILD CHERRY”

“Wild Cherry” and the Fespermans won “Best Non-Wood Boat” at the 2023 Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival in Tavares, FL.
