27’ long, 4’ 7” beam, this gem was built by E. Messum & Sons in the 1870’s in Richmond, England,. The boat has a caned bench seat with table, two in-line rowing seats, a bow seat and a stern seat. The woods used are Honduran mahogany and English oak and are joined by copper rivets. Restorer Graeme King (former wood racing scull builder for Harvard) used 23 K gold leaf for the extensive decorative gilding. An appraiser from the Thames Traditional Boat Society called it “magnificent and rare.” The boat also includes four gold-tipped oars, a docking paddle with gaff, a sail and mast, a steering rudder, and a trailer, as well as the restorer’s notes, receipts, etc. The boat can be viewed at the Green Mountain Orchard in Putney, VT.
