Shannon and Scott Knight have so much fun with their Chris Craft XK-19 pictured here on their home lake in Michigan.
Combine the red-and-white with FUN and it makes the perfect Valentine.
This Chris Craft XK-19 was manufactured in 1973 putting it into the “Classic” age classification which includes boats made from 1943 through 1975. The Knight’s XK-19 is powered by a Mercruiser 305 with 220 hp.
This is the information submitted with the boat registration as part of the membership database:
This is the first boat we have ever owned. We purchased her in 2014. She was already “restored” to the red and white scheme and repowered. The previous owner purchased her in original condition – cream with a brown stripe and brown interior – from an owner in Connecticut and then completed the “restoration” over a number of years between Florida and Minnesota. We enjoy using the boat as a “daily driver” on our small inland lake in Southeast Michigan. Her low profile and modern outdrive (with trim) allow us to squeeze through the low and shallow culverts between our lake and 3 other larger connected lakes. We brought her to Minnesota in Fall of 2015 for the “Woods and Water” international show pre-events and were very pleased with the performance of the deep vee which provided a comfortable ride through the boat wakes and windy chop of the big lakes. It was our first chance to really open her up and we had a blast!
We are very thankful for the help we received from the ACBS, CCABC and Woody Boater communities as we were researching and considering this purchase. We have learned a lot about XK’s in the process and about what to watch out for. If you are considering an XK-19, please feel free to contact us, we would be happy to share what we have learned.
Things have been busy lately, completely missed this nice post from ACBS this week! Thank you for the nice feature! Update: thanks to the Chris-Craft archives we have discovered our boat is actually a 1972.
Thanks, Shannon. And now the ACBS records have also been updated to 1972 for your XK-19.
