This story about We Three, a very rare Gar Wood, was supplied with membership information:
1945 GarWood….Dianne and her late husband, Dr. W. Dayton Shelly, purchased the GarWood in 1996 from a family on Long Lake, NY where it has stayed since purchased in 1945. “We Three” is a GarWood prototype, purchased by W.A. Ranney from the floor of Hearns Department Store, in January, 1946 where she was displayed for “taking orders” and show, since there was no New York Boat Show that year, due to the war. She was the only GarWood of her kind built and primarily for that show. Mr. Ranney had taken his daughter to Hearns to purchase clothing and saw this particular boat, inquired about purchasing one like it and was told “he should consider purchasing this boat due to rumors that the company would or might be closing in the near future. He purchased her on the spot. Mrs. Shelly purchased this boat from the original owner…We Three has always “lived” on Long Lake. All original wood, including bottom.
