The Blue Ridge Chapter was formed on April 8, 1986, at Lake Lure, North Carolina. The Club has flourished for 39 years with many shows, events, and group rendezvous. Today we have 200 members, mostly from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, but also from other states across the Southeast.
The majority of the Blue Ridge Chapter boating events have taken place at lakes Hartwell, Lanier, Norman, Chatuge, Sinclair, Lure, Burton, Keowee, and other lakes in the region. We have also participated in river cruises, military events, displays at regional boat shows, holiday parades, and local community festivals. The chapter members look forward to any opportunity to take their boats out to share with the community, as well enjoying fellowship on and off the water.
It has been a special privilege to participate in the annual Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival on Hilton Head Island for many years. The chapter has been featured as a part of the Life on the Water Exhibit, and the group appreciates this unique opportunity to display its classic boats with the Car Club Showcase, the Aero Expo at the nearby HHI airport, and the prestigious Concours d’Elegance.
In late September of 2024, the region suffered from the destructive impact of Hurricane Helene. The Lake Lure community in western North Carolina was especially hard hit. The chapter has had a close relationship with the community for many years from participating in their annual antique classic car and boat show. So, it has been heartbreaking to see the devastation there. Thanks to the combined efforts of residents, business owners, town staff, the Army Corps, the state of N.C., and charities and organizations, the area is steadily rebuilding. The chapter contributed to the recovery effort, and members look forward to returning when the lake and the community are ready. The club hopes to have a trailer show there soon to show its continuing support.
Chapter members also enjoy attending the shows, seminars and workshops organized by other chapters including the Sunnyland Festival held each spring. Such events offer an ideal way to build relationships and share knowledge and resources in the groups’ common passion for antique and classic boats.
Over the years, many members have served in ACBS leadership and board roles. Such opportunities have helped members to broaden their knowledge and relationships, both personally and professionally. Recently, we completed a review of past events, meetings, and communications back to the initial years our club started. The exercise proved to be very insightful, providing a deeper perspective on the value of its past activities, while serving as a springboard for the future.
The Blue Ridge Chapter sends sincere congratulations to ACBS on this special 50th anniversary. We look forward to a future that brings more boating adventures for all!
My wife and I attended a a Blue Ridge Chapter boat show in 2024 at Lake Lure. We had great time at their show and the southern hospitality of this chapter made us feel like lifelong friends. Great bunch of folks in this chapter!
