And, now onto the midwest and the Mississippi Valley Chapter of ACBS….

The Mississippi Valley Chapter is small but mighty. Chartered in the 1980s, with most of its members centered around St. Louis, Missouri, the Chapter meets regularly in the four bay workshop of one of its members to tinker, restore, learn, and just enjoy the camaraderie that comes with owning a historic boat. The group has collectively restored about 15 boats since they began meeting in 2006. As of this writing they are turning the transom of an old wooden boat, that had been formerly used to use as a table and desk during their boat shows into a sofa.

The Mississippi Valley boat shows are normally held on the Mississippi River at a marina in Louisianna, Missouri. Though member numbers have decreased over time, the group still enjoys boat outings. The Mississippi River in mid- to late-September can be a great place to take a ride on the water. Some members of the Mississippi Valley Chapter are also members of the Heartland Chapter and participate regularly in their activities too. Mississippi Valley Chapter shows, like those from all chapters, are generating interest in classic boats.

  1. I didn’t know there was a Mississippi Valley chapter. I am a member of the Heartland classics and live in Lake Saint Louis. I joined the Heartland classics last year.

    • Patrick,
I’m so glad you mentioned this! ACBS chapters are listed under the About tab on the ACBS website. You can find chapters by geographic area or by chapter name. Here is a direct link to the list: https://acbs.org/chapters-directory/. ACBS members are welcome to join more than one chapter! This is a great way to stay connected with what’s happening regionally. Member contact information for each chapter can be found on the member-only accessed MyACBS.org. I’m sure the Mississippi Valley Chapter would love to see you at an upcoming workshop!
